Does Natural Deodorant Work in an Australian Summer

Fair question.

Be honest though, you are only asking because you have already tried one. It quit on you around lunchtime in February, and you went back to the aluminium stick you did not really want to be using.

So let us be straight about what a natural deodorant does, and what it does not.

IT DOES NOT STOP YOU SWEATING

Nothing natural does. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

Antiperspirants block your sweat ducts with aluminium salts. That is why they work. It is also why some people would rather not.

A deodorant leaves the sweating alone and goes after the smell.

THE BIT NOBODY TELLS YOU

Sweat does not smell.

It is basically water and salt. You could bottle it and it would be the world’s worst sports drink, but it would not stink.

The smell turns up when bacteria on your skin get into it. Sort that out and you have sorted the problem.

Ours does it with charcoal powder, tapioca starch, sodium bicarbonate and magnesium hydroxide. Charcoal and tapioca, bicarb and magnesium hydroxide make your pits a much less appealing place for odour-causing bacteria to set up shop. Sage and essential oils do the rest.

WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE ON A 38 DEGREE DAY

Two swipes in the morning.

No sneaking off at lunch to reapply. No white marks down a black shirt, no yellow patches on a white one.

One stick is 75g. About three months.

Do not take our word for it though. We would say it works. We made it. Here is what customers said:

“Nothing could compete with the Aussie heat until now.”

“Even on the hottest, sweatiest days this stuff actually works.”

“Lasts 12+ hours in peak Aussie summer.”

IF YOU ARE SWITCHING

Give your body a week or two. Your skin is adjusting to not being blocked up, and that adjustment is real.

We wrote a whole post about it, because it is the thing people ask us about more than anything else.
